From my nature journal: “I had seen the red tips of blue doug-fir before and knew they developed into cones, but I didn’t realize they were soft, like a flower. Besides the obvious cones, were small red-purple cone-buds. The base of all was surrounded by a paper-like brown bud cover. The back of the leaves had a blue cast. The cones hang down.”
